The popular spot plans to move locations and reopen with a shortened menu.

Seasoned Vegan, one of New York’s great vegan restaurants, will close its Harlem location on April 1. After nine years of continuous service, Black-owned Seasoned Vegan is being forced to relocate to a new space with a smaller menu.

Seasoned Vegan’s Nine-Year History

Seasoned Vegan was started by a mother-and-son duo: chefs Brenda and Aaron Beener. In the 1980s, Chef Brenda and her entire family went vegan and caused lots of heads to turn. She and her son began holding vegan pop-ups in the early 2010s. Her son, Aaron, had returned from studying in Spain with a master’s degree in linguistics and plans to become a court interpreter. Instead, he devoted himself to a kitchen in the Bronx with his mother. In 2014, Seasoned Vegan opened its doors in Harlem with the help of a successful Kickstarter campaign and a local grant. It was Harlem’s first full-service vegan restaurant.

Their Soul Food-inspired menu has featured critically acclaimed vegan mac ‘n’ cheese, BBQ Riblets, and Lemon Crusted Chicken Nuggets for nearly a decade. Seasoned Vegan’s rendition of Soul Food is unique because it draws on the South’s culinary legacy and pulls in other influences such as Italian, Asian, Middle Eastern, and Caribbean-style fare. Their dishes are also 100% organic.

Seasoned Vegan’s Harlem Location to Close on April 1

On April 1, Seasoned Vegan’s Harlem location will close. It appears that the landlords who own the building that Seasoned Vegan has been renting no longer want them as tenants. Fortunately, this is not the end for Seasoned Vegan.

Seasoned Vegan will reopen at 128 2nd Avenue between 7th and 8th streets in NoHo. You will still be able to enjoy some of the restaurant’s classics, such as their BBQ Crawfish, Crawfish Po’ Boy, Chicken Nuggets, and Seasoned Fries. However, many other fabulous offerings will drop from the menu, including their popular mac ‘n’ cheese, souffle, ribs, fish steak, and chopped cheese. Visit their Harlem location before April 1 to enjoy these dishes before they are no longer offered!
