The San Diego-based company Trupo Treats is now selling their ethical and delicious vegan milk chocolate bars online for a limited time only!
Trupo Treats was founded in July 2020 by twin brothers and longtime vegans Brian and Charlie Trupo. The company specializes in crafting vegan versions of classic chocolate bars, with the goal of providing a sense of nostalgia through the taste of the candy bars we ate as kids—but with better-for-you, plant-based ingredients.
Each of these nostalgic, creamy vegan chocolate bars ships nationwide and are made with organic, vegan, fairly traded ingredients, in addition to being packaged in eco-friendly wrappers. To make things even sweeter, the Trupo twins have committed to using their company as a platform for making a positive impact on animals and the environment, as well as communities around the world.
Here’s how the Trupo twins are creating vegan magic, one chocolate bar at a time.
Vegan Versions of Your Favorite Childhood Treats
The idea to start a chocolate company began during a trip to Whole Foods, when Brian Trupo was on the hunt for a creamy, vegan chocolate bar, but found the options to be scarce.
“I was in my last year of college and was tasked with starting a business for one of my class projects. I was walking down the chocolate aisle in Whole Foods and realized at the time that there were no chocolates clearly labeled as ‘vegan,’” Brian Trupo told VegOut. “I was in the mood for a sweet and creamy chocolate bar but couldn’t find a single vegan bar other than a few of the dark chocolates. This was when I decided to make my own vegan milk chocolate company that made creamy, vegan versions of your childhood favorites.”
Two months later, with the help of his brother Charlie, the Trupo twins launched their first chocolate bar—the Vegan Crunch bar. Since then, the brothers have also released a Creamy Classic Mylk Chocolate bar and a Peppermint Crush Bar. A Caramel Cookie bar will be released within the next three months. Each bar is gluten-free, soy-free, peanut-free, and nut-free (except for coconuts), and contains a blend of dairy-free, creamy milk chocolate made from just seven ingredients—cane sugar, cocoa butter, cacao liquor, coconut milk powder, sunflower lecithin, vanilla extract, and salt.
More Than Just a Chocolate Company
After conducting research on chocolate production, the Trupo twins realized they could leverage their business to help put an end to the unfair practices that currently take place within the industry. As a way to make a positive impact on chocolate manufacturing, the brothers have partnered with Mother Jungle Herbs, a cacao supplier that uses direct trade policies and is sponsored by the Food Empowerment Project.
By using fair trade cacao in their products, Trupo Treats is supporting the Food Empowerment Project’s goal to end child labor and slavery across the globe, making them more then just a chocolate company.
Chocolate That Gives Back to the Animals and Planet
Trupo Treats aims to offer chocolate that not only tastes delicious, but that also gives back to the animals and planet. Each of their creamy chocolate bars comes wrapped in a compostable, plant-based wrapper instead of the traditional plastic flow wrap, which reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills, as the compostable wrappers are easy to break down.
As a way to give back to the animals, the Trupo twins have partnered with a number of animal sanctuaries, such as Wisconsin-based Tiny Hooves Animal Sanctuary and Little Buckets Farm Sanctuary in Virginia. A portion of the proceeds from Trupo Treats is given directly to these sanctuaries, which helps keep the animals safe and in good care.
