The fan-favorite coffee chain is back at it with the vegan options!

The moment Peet’s Coffee released their Everything Plant-Based Sandwich, we knew they were looking out for us plant-eaters! It’s not often that you find a mainstream coffee chain that has a variety of automatically vegan items. But with the news that Peet’s Coffee now serves a limited-edition vegan cold brew oat latte, we feel like we’ve died and gone to vegan option heaven!

Vegan Chocolate Cold Brew Oat Latte

Peet’s Coffee just added a new limited-edition Cold Brew Oat Latte to their summer beverage menu. The refreshing drink is available in two flavors—honey and chocolate. The honey version isn’t vegan, but the chocolate flavor is!

The vegan Chocolate Cold Brew Oat Latte is rich, refreshing, and perfectly sweet! To make the drink, Peet’s oat milk is first whipped in a blender until frothy, then it’s poured over ice and finished off with fresh-brewed Baridi cold brew coffee. The Baridi cold brew at Peet’s Coffee already has a sweet and chocolaty flavor, but the flavors of the drink are taken up a notch with a vegan-friendly house-made chocolate sauce.

We asked the Peet’s Coffee Senior Beverage Innovator, Patrick Main, where the inspiration came from for this drink. He said, “This beverage format was developed during early COVID lockdown when I moved my lab into my home kitchen. I wanted to make something simple, but visually beautiful and (of course) delicious. Also, oat milk has been such a meteorically popular ingredient in our beverages over the past couple of years so we knew we wanted to continue to find new ways to feature it.”

Vegan Options at Peet’s Coffee

In addition to the Chocolate Cold Brew Oat Latte, there are many other vegan options at Peet’s Coffee. Pretty much every beverage can be made vegan when you sub in your favorite dairy-free milk (almond, oat, or soy) and avoid whipped cream, honey, caramel, and white chocolate sauce. The only two drinks that can’t be made vegan whatsoever include the Havana Cappuccino and The Black Tie, as both are made with sweetened condensed milk.

The food menu at Peet’s Coffee varies by region, but here’s the general rundown of what you can order:

  • The Everything Plant-Based Sandwich
  • Vegan Blueberry Oat Bran Muffin
  • Vegan Peanut Butter Cookie
  • Vegan Guittard Chocolate Brownie
  • Everything Bagel Thin
  • Plain Bagel
  • And a selection of grab-and-go items

When asked about what new vegan items we can expect to try at Peet’s Coffee, Main shared, “We recently launched a new line of frozen Frappés that were purposefully formulated to make it possible to offer a plant-based version on request. We are continuing to focus on plant-based innovation and we will have a selection of new and exciting beverages to share at the beginning of fall. We are continuing to find new techniques, textures, and tastes with plant-based ingredients. Many of us at Peet’s (myself included) have primarily or exclusively plant-based diets, so our commitment to innovation in this field is personal.”

The Chocolate Cold Brew Oat Latte is now available on the summer beverage menu at all Peet’s Coffee locations nationwide. Stop by or place a pickup order online in advance to try it out—as well as their many other menu items! Anyone else tempted to order a Frappé, too?
