Calling all sandwich enthusiasts! A vegan deli just opened in Santa Monica, and you don’t want to miss out on their hearty subs and refreshing sides. Keep reading to learn more about B&T’s Deli.

B&T’s Deli in Santa Monica

B&T’s Deli opened in Santa Monica earlier this month with a 100% plant-based menu featuring predominantly housemade, organic, and locally sourced ingredients. Founders Britt and Terrence Caldwell opened this spot to share their love of local delis, sandwiches, and fresh ingredients.

Britt told VegOut, “We’re sandwich lovers, and deli culture is in our blood. Aside from the food, we love what delis bring to their local communities. Places like Bay Cities in Santa Monica and Russ and Daughters in NYC are treasures to us. We love Bay Cities because it has the critical elements of a great deli: the hearty sub-style sandwiches, the freedom to build your own, and a variety of great sides all packed into a convenient humble space. We love Erewhon because there’s a huge element of trust with anything you buy there. You know that they’ve done the work to source and create food that is minimally processed, organic, sustainable, and good for you.”

Vegan Sub Sandwiches

A big selling point for B&T’s Deli is its use of unique ingredients as meat alternatives. You’ve probably had your share of vegan turkey slices, but sometimes us plant-eaters want something made from whole foods. B&T’s deli stocks ten different sub sandwiches loaded with deliciously seasoned yet simple ingredients like Marinated Eggplant, Artichoke Hearts, Mushrooms, Chickpea Salad, “Whitefish” Celery Root, and more.

“We use ingredients that everyone knows and loves, like artichokes, instead of confusing and fake meat imitations that turn people off from incorporating plant-based items into their routine. We show the plant-based-curious that you’re not relegating yourself to a lifetime of tofu and hummus,” said Britt.

Beyond the fresh veggies, most people know the sauce is what makes or breaks a sandwich—and B&T’s housemade spreads definitely take their handhelds to the next level. Plant-Based Deli Sides

The plant-based deli sides at B&T’s Deli include Chickpea Salad, Marinated Eggplant, Marinated Zucchini, Celery Root Salad, Cannellini Bean Salad, Yukon Gold Potato Salad, Tabouli, Stuffed Cherry Peppers, as well as a selection of chips. For dessert, try one of B&T’s many vegan cookies—Chocolate Chip, Lemon Poppyseed, Peanut Butter, Oatmeal Chip, or GF Chocolate.
