Cultured Kindness opened the doors to its first brick-and-mortar last month.

Great news—there’s a new vegan cheese shop in Portland! Portland seems to be the hub for small-batch vegan cheese shops, and we’re all about it. Cultured Kindness has been a Portland staple for a while, and after spending the last few years selling out at local Portland farmers markets, offering local deliveries, and showing up on the shelves of local grocers, they finally opened the doors to their first shop early last month.

Fermented and Aged Vegan Cheese

Cultured Kindness uses organic cashews and extensive fermentation and aging processes to create their cheeses—all of which are soy- and gluten-free. They offer more than a dozen aged cheeses sold in wheels (including rotating seasonal flavors), several cream cheeses, and sampler packs. Some popular flavors include Smoky Good-Ah, Garlic Dill Hav-A-Hearti, and Pepper Jill.

Alongside the vegan cheese wheels, the shop also offers a small deli and a rotating selection of cheese-filled sandwiches. At the deli, you can find a spinach artichoke dip made with Smoky Gouda and cream cheese, as well as a buffalo jackfruit dip made with their house chévre. Both are available for purchase by the half-pound. Current sandwich offerings include a mushroom melt (roasted balsamic mushrooms, Pepper Jill, and Smoky Gouda) and the Mojo Jackfruit Vegano (chévre, house-made roasted mojo-style jackfruit, Tofurky slices, dill pickles, and mustard). Sandwiches are served on sourdough with a gluten-free option available.

Rounding out the menu are their cheesecakes—a traditional NY-style topped with coconut-cardamom caramel sauce and an ube cheesecake on a gluten-free coconut and almond crust.
