Vogue’s popular red carpet fashion event will feature a plant-based menu!
What could be better than wearing a flashy ball gown? Eating a delicious plant-based meal in it! For some fashion icons, that dream will be a reality because the Met Gala will serve an all-vegan menu this year!
The Met Gala
If you’re not big into pop culture, let us brief you on the Met Gala. It’s an annual ball hosted by Vogue to raise funds for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. The event hosts some of the top fashion designers, models, and celebrities who stunt outfits that are extravagant AF. In short, it’s basically the Oscars for fashion—or as some like to call it, “fashion’s biggest night out.”
Vegan Menu at the Met Gala
For the first time ever, there will be an all-vegan menu at the Met Gala. Marcus Samuelsson and Bon Appétit picked 10 New York-based chefs and Instagram influencers to curate the menu. The full culinary squad includes Junghyun Park of Atomix, Emma Bengtsson of Aquavit, Thomas Raquel of Le Bernardin, Fabian von Hauske of Wildair, Sophia Roe, Fariyal Abdullahi, Nasim Alikhani, Lazarus Lynch, Erik Ramirez, and Simone Tong.
Instead of making their own separate items, the 10 chefs will collaborate on a “summertime picnic” menu. The evening will kick off with a Nicoise-inspired salad but the dishes that follow haven’t been released to the public yet. We hope there will be an apple pie somewhere in the lineup, though. Viewers at home can watch the chefs prepare the meals and access the recipes on Instagram Reels by checking out the hashtag #MetGalaChefs.
NYC Is Going Vegan
The Met Gala's inspiration for transitioning to a plant-based menu is believed to be the Michelin-starred restaurant Eleven Madison Park's switch to an all-vegan lineup earlier this summer. NYC is going vegan and we are SO here for it!
