Scoops Dessert Bar is a vegan and gluten-free shop in Chicago set to open this spring. The creamery will feature treats like NadaMoo! ice cream in single or double scoops, sundaes, ice cream sandwiches, and a milkshake bar that will offer vegan and gluten-free alcoholic additives. Scoops was founded by long-time vegan and Chicago-raised Brittany Gumbiner, with help from her best friend and fellow vegan Alissa Parra, who helped design the interior of the shop.

“I wanted a selection of flavors with the ability to create a special space for those vegan and gluten-free lovers. The concept originated from wanting to provide an experience that serves pleasure to all audiences by not trading taste due to food tolerances,” Gumbiner told VegOut.

The shop’s milkshake bar will consist of classic flavors like vanilla topped with marshmallows and sprinkles, milkshake floats to which alcohol can be added, as well as chocolate milkshakes (which are inspired by Gumbiner’s late grandmother). In addition to shakes, Scoops Dessert Bar will also serve items like ice cream sandwiches made with chocolate chip cookies, birthday cake ice cream filling, and sprinkles, as well as ice cream scoops in varieties such as mint chocolate chip, Rockiest Road, s’mores, cookie dough fudge, and caramel cold brew.

Scoops Dessert Bar will be located at 838 N State Street in the heart of Chicago’s Gold Coast district. Follow them on Instagram (@scoopsdessertbar) for the latest scoop!

Just launched: Laughing in the Face of Chaos by Rudá Iandê

Exhausted from trying to hold it all together?
You show up. You smile. You say the right things. But under the surface, something’s tightening. Maybe you don’t want to “stay positive” anymore. Maybe you’re done pretending everything’s fine.

This book is your permission slip to stop performing. To understand chaos at its root and all of your emotional layers.

In Laughing in the Face of Chaos, Brazilian shaman Rudá Iandê brings over 30 years of deep, one-on-one work helping people untangle from the roles they’ve been stuck in—so they can return to something real. He exposes the quiet pressure to be good, be successful, be spiritual—and shows how freedom often lives on the other side of that pressure.

This isn’t a book about becoming your best self. It’s about becoming your real self.
