DefaultVeg: Making Plant-Based the Norm

Local Austin establishments are taking a step toward a greener future by offering delicious plant-based options, with many adopting the DefaultVeg strategy, making plant-based the default choice. It’s an invitation to savor culinary excellence while championing environmental awareness.

Laura Lee Cascada, Sr. Director of Campaigns at Better Food Foundation, said, “Through this community-wide initiative, Austin is trailblazing the way toward a more sustainable food norm, one that puts plants at the center of our plates. Spotlighting Austin’s diverse and delicious array of plant-based fare in the heart of Texas will show other cities that they, too, can bring together citizens to take a bite out of their food footprint.”

Join the Movement and Make an Impact

Plant-Based for the Planet has a track record of saving over 1.3 million pounds of CO₂ equivalents across cities. The Austin partnership, sponsored by the City of Austin’s Office of Sustainability, aims for an even more significant impact.

In a world where the food system contributes substantially to greenhouse gas emissions, Austin’s embrace of plant-based dining marks a pivotal stride toward a more sustainable future. Join the movement and take a bite out of your food footprint.
