Vegan Detroit-Style Pizza Pop-Up Inside Alkebu-Lan Village

Village Pizza is led by ItsFoodDetroit in collaboration with Alkebu-Lan Village and Culinary Pleasures. The vegan pizza pop-up is located inside Alkebu-Lan Village, a martial arts school and community space. The concept is sustained by the youth business program Culinary Pleasures which teaches entrepreneurship and health skills to teens. As for the plant-based menu and pop-up conceptualization, that’s all ItsFoodDetroit.

Plant-Based Pop-Up Concept Rooted in Pizza

ItsFoodDetroit’s Village Pizza is a plant-based pop-up rooted in pizza. It was founded by Brittany March, a longtime vegan, entrepreneur, and self-made pizza expert. March created the weekly pop-up in an effort to showcase the art behind better-for-you pizza options in the Detroit community. March has goals to continue to grow her ghost kitchen through a more consistent pop-up operation and potentially a brick-and-mortar location down the line.

“My personal journey impacted the way I saw myself serving food. In 2019, when the pop-up business began, I knew I wanted a vegan pizzeria that the masses could enjoy,” March told VegOut. “This operation is led by ItsFoodDetroit but nourished by Alkebu-Lan Village and Culinary Pleasures. Hence, the name Village Pizza. With their 46 years of entrepreneurship experience, [Alkebu-Lan Village] helped ItsFoodDetroit formulate a ghost kitchen pizzeria that is run by all youth, my mom, myself, and a few friends.”

Vegan-Friendly Detroit-Style Pizza Menu

Village Pizza offers a variety of creative, vegan-friendly pies in two sizes: a Detroit 4-square and a large 8-square. Vegan pizza offerings include the Gratiot Pesto (a Detroit-style pie consisting of vegan pesto, artichokes, onions, peppers, mushrooms, tomatoes, and vegan cheese), Alkebu-Do Supreme (a loaded ‘za topped with peppers, onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, and spinach), and the No Swine Hawaiian (a vegan take on an American classic made with peppers, onions, seitan bacon, and pineapple), to name a few. In addition to customizable pizza pies, Village Pizza offers breadsticks, calzones, salads, fried mushroom wings, and more. Please note that while Village Pizza was built for vegans, the pop-up does offer clearly labeled dairy cheese and poultry options on a few of the menu items.

Village Pizza operates every Sunday from 12-5pm. Patrons can also catch the vegan-friendly pop-up on the first Saturday of every month from 11am-7pm. Menu items are available for pre-order which opens up on Wednesdays, but walk-in orders are also accepted. Village Pizza can be found inside Alkebu Lan Village, located at 7701 Harper Avenue, Detroit, MI 48213. Watch ItsFoodDetroit grow on Instagram and Facebook.
