Enjoy life like a local and authentic Greek cuisine at this vegan hotel in Greece.
Looking for an authentic Greek experience complete with plant-based meals, sustainable design, and good old-fashioned family hospitality? Then book a stay at Goji Vegan Hotel, the first vegan hotel in Rhodes, Greece! From the crowing rooster and family pup to the traditional Greek dishes made by the owner’s 94-year-old yiayia (grandmother), this spot contains all the charm, warmth, and comfort of home.
Goji Vegan Hotel: Family-Run Business
Goji Vegan Hotel is truly a family-run business with Yiayia in the kitchen and the family’s cockapoo, Sakis, welcoming guests poolside. The hotel’s owner, Giannis Xanthis, lives on-site with his wife Carly, who takes care of admin duties and serves as the resort’s general assistant. Mum Mari manages food and supplies behind the scenes, while brother-in-law Aris runs the front desk. The small 11-room occupancy adds to the inviting feel and sets the stage for the ultimate experience in family hospitality.
Sustainable Vegan Hotel in Greece
Located on the island of Rhodes, Greece, and formerly owned by Xanthis’ father, the hotel has been completely refurbished, veganized, and made sustainable within the past couple of years. Goji is designed with the environment in mind, from rainwater collection and solar panels to vegan toiletries and cleaning products. They even plant a tree for every booking!
Authentic Vegan Greek Cuisine
The new sustainability efforts include revamping the hotel’s menu to a 100% plant-based plan. You’ll enjoy authentic, homemade vegan Greek cuisine while dining al fresco poolside.
Breakfast starts with a daily yogurt bowl, freshly brewed coffee, housemade marmalades or tahini, a bread option such as sesame bread rings, and more. Menu items vary and include mains like spanikopita and desserts such as ginger cookies. For your coffee, choose from almond, oat, and soy milk.
For dinner, begin with a Goji Berry Mojito, Aperol Spritz, or another of the hotel’s colorful cocktails and mocktails. From there, your dining experience includes a salad, savory pie, a main, and a dessert. From the dakos salad, aubergine pie, and fava bean hummus to the pastitio (a Greek lasagna), chickpea stew, and spinach pie, Goji brings a delicious vegan twist to traditional Greek fare. For dessert? Our favorite was the halva, a fudge-like tahini sweet with sugar and spices.
Things to Do While You’re There
At the hotel, enjoy a swim in the pool or join in on a yoga class. And it’s just a short walk to shops, restaurants, and the Aegean Sea! Yes, that’s Turkey you see on the other side. Feel free to say hello to the stray cats roaming the town and property. They are much loved and cared for by the community and enjoy getting to know new friends.
If it’s a day trip you’re looking for, you’ve got options! Explore medieval ruins, Old Town, and remnants of the island’s occupation by the Knights of St. John. Or spend some time browsing the many shops, enjoying a midday break for a light lunch. We tried vegetarian restaurant ONO, with lots of vegan options, and were pleasantly surprised. Prefer to be pampered? Rent a chair on one of the island’s beaches and spend the afternoon soaking up the sun by the Aegean Sea. Might we suggest ordering a mocktail to sip your way through the day? Rhodes offers plenty of sightseeing, gorgeous water views, and shopping adventures alike.
