This month, New York’s historic market welcomes Pia, a restaurant featuring plant-based Mexican fare with natural wine pairings.

Pia joins the lineup of vegan eats available at New York’s historic Chelsea Market. An acronym for “plants instead of animals,” Pia will feature plant-based Mexican dishes and natural wine pairings. The restaurant concept was launched by co-founders Troi Lughod and Peter Tondreau, chefs and restaurateurs known for ventures like Bar Suzette, Bangkok B.A.R., and Very Fresh Noodles. The vegan Mexican restaurant will feature the market’s first natural wine bar curated in collaboration with Alex Kleinburg, the former owner of Brooklyn’s Kleinberg’s and Pokito.

Pia’s Plant-Based Menu

After being presented with the opportunity to expand plant-based fare within the Chelsea Market, Lughod and Tondreau’s restaurant concept comes toting a delicious, plant-based food selection. Pia’s menu will feature chef-crafted Mexican fare utilizing fresh and local ingredients. Diners can enjoy rotating chef specialties, including tamales and pozole, along with weekend brunch options. Menu mainstays include plant-based tostadas and burritos like the Burrito Ahogado made with housemade chorizo and topped with cashew crema. The vegan Mexican restaurant utilizes many New York-local ingredients including Smallhold Mushrooms, Heermance Farm produce, and Vertage Foods vegan cheese. Menu items complement Pia’s elevated wine list, which showcases natural, organic, and biodynamic offerings sourced from around the world.

Vegan-Friendly Choices at Chelsea Market

Pia received a warm welcome from the historic indoor marketplace in extending the vegan-friendly choices at Chelsea Market. And the feeling is mutual! Pia chefs are enjoying their time learning and growing alongside their diverse team members.

“Chelsea Market is not only a great launching pad for new businesses, but it is a community of makers, chefs, and creatives that inspire each other to continue learning, growing, and excelling at their crafts,” said Pia co-owner and chef, Troi Lughod. “Our hope is that our plant-based menu offers Chelsea Market visitors and locals a healthy and delicious option for dine-in or takeout. We are also looking forward to being the first natural wine bar in the market, giving us a chance to share the exciting new world of wine emerging in the city and around the world.”

Find Pia in the middle of Chelsea Market, located at 425 W 15th Street, New York, NY 10011. The vegan Mexican restaurant will be open from 12-9pm Wednesday through Sunday. For more from Pia, check out the company’s website, and watch the business grow.
