The beloved Black-owned vegan cookie company will launch three brand-new cookie flavors inspired by Florence Griffith Joyner, Serena Williams, and Magic Johnson.
San Diego-based Black-owned vegan cookie company Maya’s Cookies is set to kick off Black History Month with the much-anticipated release of its 4th annual Black History Collection. This year, the spotlight shines on trailblazing Black athletes who’ve shattered barriers and left an indelible mark on the world of sports.
Celebrating Athletic Icons
This year’s collection honors three athletic pioneers—Florence Griffith Joyner, Serena Williams, and Earvin “Magic” Johnson. These icons’ stories of resilience, dedication, and Black excellence are beautifully captured through delicious vegan cookies.
“At its core, our Black History Collection is about sharing hidden histories and teaching people about the men and women who have shaped my life and our community,” said Maya Madsen, Maya’s Cookies founder. “These are the legacies I want to celebrate with this collection. Flo-Jo inspired me with her unapologetic style. Serena’s determination is a constant reminder to keep pushing. Magic Johnson’s business savvy and support of underserved communities was unlike anything I’d ever seen. They are more than their awards and accolades and I want to recognize their lasting influence.”
The Sweet Lineup: The Trailblazer, The Grand Slam, and The MVP
- The Trailblazer: Inspired by track and field legend Flo-Jo’s unapologetic style, the Trailblazer is a vanilla bean butter rum cookie infused with rich toffee flavors, sweet cinnamon, and a touch of gold sparkle.
- The Grand Slam: The Grand Slam pays homage to Serena Williams with a chocolate dough delicacy filled with cookie butter, premium Kanda dark chocolate, and marshmallow. Topped with vanilla-infused sea salt, it’s a twist on old-school Moon Pies.
- The MVP: In honor of Magic Johnson’s court prowess and business acumen, The MVP is a brown sugar cookie loaded with chocolate chips, caramel chips, toasted pecans, and shredded coconut, enveloped in caramelized vegan condensed milk.
