Kitchen 17 has relocated from Lakeview to Avondale with some sophisticated upgrades to the interior and menu.

This month, Chicago’s destination spot for vegan deep-dish pizza gets a makeover. Kitchen 17—an all-vegan restaurant that specializes in plant-based pizzas, burgers, and dairy-free apps—has relocated from Lakeview to Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. The new location features a spacious dining room with two levels, as well as additional seating in the attached full bar.

Chicago’s Top Spot for Vegan Deep-Dish Pizza

Kitchen 17 initially debuted as a vegan sandwich shop in 2013, eventually expanding the menu to include deep-dish pizza, which in turn led the restaurant to become Chicago’s top spot for vegan deep-dish. Owner Jennie Plasterer developed the menu even further, serving dishes like burgers, chicken parm, and mac ‘n’ cheese.

Now, Plasterer is excited to continue offering vegan deep-dish and other plant-based delights in the restaurant’s new home.

“We have been very grateful to Lakeview for being our home for the last eight years, but we have found that our staff and customers have all been commuting along with us to the restaurant from other areas,” Plasterer told VegOut. “We live in Avondale and are excited to bring our restaurant closer to our community.”

Pizzeria-Turned-Chic-Upscale-Restaurant

The new location comes with a much larger dining room, a full bar, and mezzanine seating, as well as an interior that features crystal chandeliers and elegant curtains, giving the atmosphere of a pizzeria-turned-chic-upscale-restaurant.

“With the crystal chandeliers, the curtains, and the wooden bar, we really get the vibe of a more upscale place and are excited to use that to push more events and an improved cocktail menu,” Joe Mertz of Kitchen 17 told VegOut. “We will be opening for business at the beginning of 2022 and hope to bring the bar online by the end of January.”

In addition to the new space, Kitchen 17’s menu has also received an upgrade. The eatery’s popular mac ‘n’ cheese side dish, crafted with house-made soy cheese, will be the base of a new mac ‘n’ cheese entrée section of the menu. Of course, the beloved deep-dish pizza remains the star of the menu and is available in unique varieties, such as cheeseburger and jalapeño popper.

Kitchen 17 is now located at 2554 W Diversey Ave, Chicago, IL 60647, just across the street from Ravinia Brewing Company, which opened this past summer.
