Eating plant-based at this healthy rice bowl chain is surprisingly easy!

WaBa Grill is surprisingly vegan-friendly. All of their sauces are vegan, and most of their menu is vegan if you omit the meat. With the release of their new Plantspired Steak, you have the choice between that, marinated tofu, or grilled veggies as your main protein option. So here’s the lowdown on how to order vegan at WaBa Grill.

About WaBa Grill

WaBa Grill is a fast-casual restaurant with nearly 200 locations throughout Southern California serving rice bowls, salads, and protein-packed plates to those looking for a quick, healthy meal. Everything is made-to-order using fresh ingredients over an open-fire grill. For those looking to avoid oil, WaBa Grill never uses any, and you won’t find any artificial additives on their menu either! The restaurant also uses a completely separate grill plate to cook the vegan steak, so no worries when it comes to cross-contamination.

How to Order a Vegan Entree at WaBa Grill

WaBa Grill makes it easy. First, choose if you want a rice bowl, a salad, or a protein plate.

The basic rice bowl comes with your choice of white or brown rice, your choice of protein, green onions, and WaBa sauce (think thick, sweet and savory teriyaki). For only $1 more, you can add a mix of fresh-steamed broccoli, cabbage, and carrots. Vegan protein options include organic marinated tofu or the new Plantspired vegan steak.

Both of their salads are vegan when ordered with tofu or Plantspired Steak. The Signature House Salad comes with greens, carrots, cucumber, grape tomatoes, and vegan wonton strips and is tossed in a sesame dressing. The Spicy Asian Salad comes with all of the above, plus cucumber and edamame kimchi, and is tossed in a spicy Asian dressing. Note: The ranch dressing is not vegan.

Plates come with your choice of rice, protein, fresh greens, and an orange half. If you’re not in the mood for the organic tofu or vegan steak, you can always order it with extra steamed veggies instead.

All bowls and plates come with the classic WaBa sauce by default, but there’s plenty of room to branch out if you’re looking to spice it up! All of WaBa’s sauces are vegan, so swap that WaBa sauce out for a Spicy WaBa or Garlic Serrano sauce if you’re craving a kick, or choose the Sweet Chili sauce if you’re in the mood for sweet and savory. WaBa’s house hot sauce is vegan as well, so you can load up your bowl or plate with as many flavors as you like!
