WaBa Grill Now Serves Vegan Steak

The new Plantspired menu items at the fast-casual restaurant chain are 100% vegan!

Vegan meat and dairy alternatives are rolling out like crazy at restaurants and coffee shops across the country! From Beyond Meat orange chicken at Panda Express and JUST Egg breakfast sandwiches at Peet’s Coffee to oat milk ice cream at Baskin-Robbins, the plant-based revolution is in full swing. But there’s one alternative we have yet to see launch at a mainstream restaurant—steak. As of this week, that void has been filled because WaBa Grill now serves vegan steak!

WaBa Grill’s New Plantspired Steak Line

While the rice bowl chain has offered tofu for quite some time, they decided to add a more innovative vegan protein to the lineup. WaBa Grill’s new Plantspired Steak line includes three dishes that are made from all-vegan ingredients.

The Plantspired Steak Bowl features a bed of white or brown rice (or half and half) topped with marinated plant-based steak slices and the sauce of your choice. The Plantspired Steak Veggie Bowl is very similar but can be ordered with steamed veggies and/or rice on the bottom. Last on the roster is the Plantspired Steak Plate. The spread comes with your choice of rice or veggies with plant-based steak, a side salad, and a bit of fruit. All of the dishes can be modified to your liking (we’d recommend adding avocado).

“As we mark 15 years in business in 2021 and set our sights on continued menu innovation, our success will always be driven by the idea that healthy food made with expertly prepared, high-quality ingredients should be delicious and accessible to all,” said Mark Finnegan, Chief Marketing & Information Officer at WaBa Grill.

Nasoya Plant-Based Steak

The Plantspired Steak at WaBa Grill is from Nasoya, the #1 tofu brand in the US. The meat alternative is marinated in-house with Asian-inspired flavors and grilled over an open fire for maximum caramelization. Lastly, the Nasoya plant-based steak it’s coated in WaBa Grill’s signature WaBa Sauce to give it a perfect sweet and savory taste. Each serving boasts 16g of protein—achieved from plant-based ingredients. When asked on Instagram about cross-contamination, WaBa Grill commented, “The Plantspired Steak is cooked on a different grill, prepared with different knives and tongs.”

Where to Find Vegan Steak

If you’re wondering where to find vegan steak, look no further than WaBa Grill! The Plantspired Steak menu items are now available at all of WaBa Grill’s locations throughout California and Arizona. For more information, visit WaBaGrill.com.
