Ordering at Tocaya is a little bit like ordering at other popular “build-your-own” places, only there’s more to choose from. Here’s how to order your next entree like a pro: First, choose your base, which includes an array of creative salads, bowls, tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Next, choose your protein from adobo tofu, vegan picadillo, or vegan chick’n. Lastly, choose your queso, of which there’s also two vegan options—mozzarella and chipotle jack.

Tocaya’s adobo tofu is firm, spicy, and diced, marinated in garlic, chipotle adobo sauce, tomato, and yellow onion. If there’s still a thought in your mind that “tofu is bland,” then this rendition is about to change that. Their vegan picadillo is a meaty stew that’s fragrant, boldly spiced, and perfect for those who want a saucy protein for their entree that isn’t too spicy. The vegan chick’n, well, let’s just say “it tastes like chicken.” Their mozzarella is subtle in flavor, while the chipotle jack is lightly smoky and spicy; both have a nice and melty texture, and neither of them have that overwhelming funkiness that other vegan cheeses do.

Now because this may be a little overwhelming, we’ve decided to highlight a few great options from the menu, including what protein and cheese to pair them with. If you’ve never been to Tocaya, here’s some tasty combos to start with!:

  • Tostada Salad: a stacked butter lettuce and black bean salad stacked atop a crispy corn tortilla with spicy citrus dressing
    • Pair with: vegan picadillo and mozzarella queso
  • Fajita Burrito: a large jalapeno burrito stuffed with cilantro lime rice, black beans, chipotle crema, sautéed poblano peppers and onions, guacamole, and pico de gallo
    • Pair with: vegan chick’n and chipotle jack queso
  • Tulum Taco: a rustic corn tortilla with grilled pineapple and arbol salsa
    • Pair with: adobo tofu and mozzarella cheese
  • Keto Bowl: seasoned cauliflower rice, sautéed bell peppers, garlic and tomato brussels sprouts, black olives, and fresh avocado
    • Pair with: adobo tofu and mozzarella cheese
  • Green Chili & Caramelized Onion Quesalita: melty cheese in between a warm corn tortilla stuffed with tomatillo salsa, chopped green chili, and caramelized onions
    • Pair with: vegan chick’n and a blend of both cheeses

Whether you want to sit down and enjoy dinner, share conversation over margaritas with a friend, grab a quick breakfast burrito in the morning, or munch on some plantain chips and guac, Tocaya is a must-try casual vegan-friendly spot.
