What Are the Benefits of Olive Oil?

But first, let’s talk about the benefits of olive oil. Produced from olives harvested at strategic points during the growing season, this natural oil offers a range of benefits to your health. While the use of oil in the diet may be a bit controversial, in general olives are a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins E and K, and polyphenols. As a result, olive oil offers anti-inflammatory properties, a source of healthy fat, and the protection power of antioxidants (which may reduce inflammation, improve heart health, and boost immune function). So what do you look for when purchasing this plant-based powerhouse?

What to Look for When Buying Olive Oil

First off, when buying olive oil, look for extra-virgin olive oil. While there are other varieties, EVOO has passed the most stringent tests. It will be higher in quality and richer in taste and nutrients than its counterparts. Additionally, you want a cold-pressed oil. This means heating processes have not compromised the quality or flavor of the product. Colored glass bottles, as opposed to clear, can also help protect the oil from damaging rays that break down the nutrient content. Other grade options include virgin olive oil and light (a more processed, refined oil that’s been stripped of odor and taste).

With all of that said, these are the best olive oil brands we tested.

Brightland

Whether you are looking for regular or infused olive oil, Brightland has what you need. This cold-pressed EVOO comes in two regular flavors, Awake and Alive. Awake boasts a bold, full profile and is great for roasting, sautéing, and dipping. Try Alive (a smooth, grassy olive oil) on salads, light pasta dishes, and more. But to up your cooking a notch, go for one of the brand’s infused oils. We’re talking rosemary (Aurora), garlic (Rosette), basil (Arise), and chili-infused (Ardor). And don’t miss Lucid, their lemon-infused EVOO. We loved this one on our morning avo toast!

Purchase these individually or as a set. Handcrafted in small batches, the cold-pressed early-harvest oils are high in antioxidants. We like the Smooth for dressings and light sautées. Try the bold for focaccia, bruschetta, and more.
