Pure Grit BBQ is giving New Yorkers a taste of Texas!
Known for its popular barbecue sauces and rubs, Pure Grit BBQ is leaping forward into a brick-and-mortar restaurant. This is not a drill! A vegan, gluten-free barbecue joint is opening in NYC this May—so get ready!
Women-Owned Vegan Restaurant
Inspired by the bustling barbecue scene in Austin, Texas, Kerry Fitzmaurice set out to create a vegan version of the classic Southern fare. She joined forces with business partner Jenny Mauric to refine the idea and brought in plant-based chefs Nikki King Bennett and Emily Hersh, as well as pitmaster Daniel Jacobellis to help refine the recipes. This May, the women-owned vegan restaurant will open its doors to the public.
The Menu at Pure Grit BBQ
The menu at Pure Grit BBQ is entirely vegan and gluten-free. Whether you enjoy mock meats or prefer whole vegetables, there’s a variety of protein options available, including Impossible cuts, Daring vegan chicken, mushrooms, and tofu. Everything is smoked in-house and seasoned to perfection with Pure Grit BBQ’s signature sauces and rubs—and served with cornbread waffles. Other menu items include sandwiches, salads, and classic barbecue sides like coleslaw, baked beans, mac ‘n’ cheese, potato salad, and waffle fries. For dessert, dig into Pure Grit’s Kitchen Sink Cookie.
“Pure Grit BBQ’s concept is simple, BBQ for all. Our mission is to create a homey dining experience that brings everyone to the table, no matter their dietary philosophy. We are all on our own food journey, and Pure Grit BBQ allows everyone to enjoy barbecue; because to us barbecue is more than food, it is a community,” said Kerry Fitzmaurice.
Pure Grit BBQ opens at 36 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10010 in mid-May. The fast-casual restaurant will be open from 11am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday and 11am to 10pm Friday and Saturday for dine-in, pickup, and delivery.
