Two Black Women Chefs to Compete on Vegan Episode of Beat Bobby Flay This Month
Tune in on January 20 to see these two chefs take on Bobby Flay!
Cooking competition shows are entertaining to watch but more often than not they feature non-vegan chefs and dishes. That’s why we’re so excited that a vegan episode of Beat Bobby Flay will air this month with chefs Tamearra Dyson and Adyre Mason.
Beat Bobby Flay on Food Network
In each episode of Beat Bobby Flay on Food Network, two guests nominate chefs to go head-to-head for the chance to—well, beat Bobby Flay! The chefs first battle each other in a culinary competition where they’re tasked to create a showstopping dish with a secret ingredient of Bobby’s choice. The winner from the first round then continues on to challenge master chef Bobby Flay with their surprise signature dish that he must create as well. The final products are presented to the judges who determine the winner. If Bobby is defeated, the winner can tell the world, “I beat Bobby Flay!”
In season 30 episode 3, titled “A Deal to Beat Bobby,” guests Mark Cuban and Sunny Anderson nominate two Black women vegan chefs to compete in a vegan episode of Beat Bobby Flay. Who are the chefs? Tamearra Dyson of Souley Vegan and Adyre Mason of The Veggie. Below is more information about each contestant.
Tamearra Dyson, Owner and Executive Chef of Souley Vegan
First up is Tamearra Dyson, owner and executive chef of Souley Vegan. Dyson first picked up cooking as a hobby but in 2007, she left her job in the medical field to pursue her chef career full-time. Two years later, she opened her first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Oakland, California—Souley Vegan. Specializing in drool-worthy vegan Louisiana creole food, Souley Vegan gained popularity which led to its expansion in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Having perfected dishes like Okra Gumbo, Southern Fried Tofu, and Ain’t Gator Po’boys, we can’t wait to see what Dyson comes up with on Beat Bobby Flay.
Adyre Mason, Owner and Executive Chef of The Veggie
The second contestant is Adyre Mason, owner and executive chef of The Veggie. Inspired by her late mother, Mason left her stable job as an engineer to become a vegan chef. Last year, Mason opened The Veggie, recognized as the largest all-vegan full-service restaurant in Huntsville, Alabama. With recipes for Philly Cheese Patty Melts, BBQ Jackfruit Wraps, and Buffalo Cauliflower Salads in her back pocket, we’re looking forward to seeing what Chef Adyre Mason cooks in her national television debut.
