How the Dairy Industry Is Hurting the Planet
MILKED – White Lies in Dairy Land is a documentary filmed in New Zealand about the truth of the dairy industry and its impact on our planet. The film follows Chris Huriwai, a New Zealand native, as he searches for answers to big environmental questions that are raised on the subject of raising cows for milk.
Director Amy Taylor follows Huriwai throughout the country as he attempts to meet with large dairy corporations and uncover the truth about the industry and how its massive ecological footprint is impacting the environment and our health.
The film features interviews with notable names in the environmental space, such as conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall, environmental advocate Suzy Amis Cameron, and freshwater ecologist Dr. Mike Joy. Several more activists, scientific experts, whistle-blowers, and industry advocates also share their opinions on the matter, and the film explores conversations with both current and former dairy farmers to gain their insight.
Award-Winning Vegan Documentary MILKED
MILKED first debuted at the New Zealand International Film Festival in 2021, and has since been featured at several other festivals and taken home several awards. MILKED was an Official Selection at the German International Film Festival and the Impact DOCS Awards, and was awarded the Best of Show at the IndieFEST Film Awards and the Gold Award at the Spotlight Documentary Film Awards.
The film is 90 minutes long and can be watched for free on YouTube. The creators of the film have also started a petition asking President Biden to reduce the US dairy herd 25% by 2025 as a part of a coordinated effort to reduce the environmental impacts of dairy worldwide.
