Urban Dessert Lab (UDL) has made waves by being named one of ESPN’s Champion Black Businesses (CBB) for 2024. This marks a significant achievement for the plant-based dessert shop, known for its innovative and sophisticated offerings.

Celebrating Black-Owned Businesses

The ESPN CBB initiative, launched in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, aims to support and uplift Black-owned businesses that faced disproportionate challenges. Partnering with Andscape, the NBA, and ABC, ESPN uses the NBA Finals platform to spotlight businesses that make impactful contributions to their communities. This year, Urban Dessert Lab is one of the four distinguished businesses featured, showcasing the diversity and ingenuity of Black entrepreneurship.

UDL owners Courtney Blagrove and Zan B.R. shared, “We are deeply honored and proud to be part of the fifth Anniversary Class of ESPN’s and the NBA’s Championing Black Businesses program. This prestigious recognition provides us with invaluable mentorship and resources, and a platform to elevate our brand and further our community impact.”

Nationwide Recognition and Spotlight During NBA Finals

Urban Dessert Lab, a Black woman-owned brand, has gained a nationwide following for its delectable plant-based desserts. With shops in New York City and Los Angeles, UDL represents LA in this prestigious recognition.

As part of their recognition, Urban Dessert Lab will be featured in a 30-second commercial during the NBA Finals. This commercial will share their inspiring story and be distributed across ESPN’s and the NBA’s digital and social media channels, highlighting the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses.

Mentorship from a “Shark”

The success of the CBB program has also led to a unique opportunity for UDL. They will receive a one-on-one mentorship session with ‘Shark’ Emma Grede, a founding partner of Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand. This session will be filmed and shared across various platforms, providing UDL with invaluable insights to aid in their business growth.
