Because vegans deserve more than bean burritos!

Taco Bell was one of the first fast-food restaurants to offer vegan-friendly options. While the chain doesn’t currently serve vegan meat and cheese alternatives, there are plenty of ways to customize menu items to make them vegan—does anyone else say ”sub beans for beef, make it fresco style” in their sleep? After running a successful test in Southern California, Taco Bell is now testing vegan beef at 95 locations in Detroit, Michigan.

Taco Bell’s Plant-Based Take on Ground Beef

The vegan meat alternative is Taco Bell’s plant-based take on ground beef. It’s approved by the American Vegetarian Association and is certified vegan. Customers can order the vegan protein in place of animal-based meat or in the vegan-friendly Cravetarian Taco—just request yours to be made without cheese and sour cream to make it vegan!

The New Cravetarian Menu at Taco Bell

The plant-based meat trial is a part of a larger test of the new Cravetarian menu at Taco Bell. The plant-forward menu is being tested exclusively at 95 locations in Detroit from now until November 10.

Other limited-edition dishes on the Cravetarian menu include plant-based renditions of Taco Bell favorites like the Nachos BellGrande, Burrito Supreme, Crunchwrap Supreme, and Crunchy Taco Supreme. At this time, the restaurant does not serve vegan cheese, so keep that in mind when modifying your order to be vegan. The general rule of thumb is no cheese shred, no queso, and no sour cream.

Will Taco Bell Test More Vegan Options?

Taco Bell first tested their vegan beef alternative in Southern California last April. In June, they brought out a vegan Naked Chicken Chalupa Shell at one restaurant in Irvine, California. So, will Taco Bell test more vegan options? We hope so! Earlier this year, the company announced plans to develop other plant-based options with Beyond Meat, so keep your eyes peeled!
