Are you still searching for the best vegan pizza in Los Angeles? The owner of Purgatory Pizza is opening an all-vegan pizza spot in Silver Lake tomorrow, and it might be your new favorite go-to spot.

Hot Tongue Pizza by Alex Koons

Hot Tongue Pizza was founded by Alex Koons, the owner of Downtown LA’s vegan-friendly pizza joint Purgatory Pizza. After popping up and making deliveries for the past year or so, Hot Tongue Pizza just announced the opening of its brick-and-mortar.

“There wasn't really a reason to open this restaurant. Now, after doing it, I can give you 1,000 reasons why not to open a restaurant. I guess it comes down to a passion, a yearning, and unspoken purpose that most people have inside them. This is mine. I love the restaurant industry, the pizza community, and pushing the limits of what 'traditional' pizza can be. I love building a team. Being a student and a teacher, creating opportunity and growing everyday. I love art, music, design, food, and connecting with people. That's what a really good restaurant is. It's a connection. I love the challenge of creating the best pizza without using traditional toppings. This shop is a personal extension of who I am and what I like. We are beyond thrilled to share it with the city that we love,” Koons told VegOut.

Scratch-Made Vegan New York-, Detroit-, and Sicilian-Style Pizza

Decked out in hot pink paint, trendy branding, and cool signage, Hot Tongue Pizza already has the visuals down. But when you try their food? Let’s just say, get ready to sell your soul to the vegan pizza gods. The menu features a variety of scratch-made vegan New York-, Detroit-, and Sicilian-style pizzas as well as garlic knots, crispy cauliflower, and salads.

The pies are available in a few different styles and sizes. The Round & Thin (New York-style) pizzas can be ordered in 14” or 18” sizes in five flavor combinations. The Square & Thick pizzas are available in two styles—Detroit and Sicilian! The Detroit-Style Pizza, which happens to be gluten-free, is baked in a 14" pan with chunky marinara sauce, mushrooms, spinach, garlic, almond ricotta, and sesame seeds. The Sicilian Pizza is baked in an 18” rectangular pan with garlic, red sauce, pesto, almond ricotta, and basil.

In addition to Hot Tongue’s pre-set pies, customers can build their own pizza on whatever style of crust they desire, with a nut-free cheese option available upon request. To pair with your slices, Hot Tongue offers garlic knots with marinara sauce, gluten-free crispy cauliflower with ranch, and two different kale salads.

Just launched: Laughing in the Face of Chaos by Rudá Iandê

Exhausted from trying to hold it all together?
You show up. You smile. You say the right things. But under the surface, something’s tightening. Maybe you don’t want to “stay positive” anymore. Maybe you’re done pretending everything’s fine.

This book is your permission slip to stop performing. To understand chaos at its root and all of your emotional layers.

In Laughing in the Face of Chaos, Brazilian shaman Rudá Iandê brings over 30 years of deep, one-on-one work helping people untangle from the roles they’ve been stuck in—so they can return to something real. He exposes the quiet pressure to be good, be successful, be spiritual—and shows how freedom often lives on the other side of that pressure.

This isn’t a book about becoming your best self. It’s about becoming your real self.
