Falafel lovers rejoice! A new vegan falafel eatery has opened on the Upper East Side.

Restaurateurs Simon Oren and Tuvia Feldman have joined forces to open Tamam (Arabic and Hebrew slang for “thumbs up”), a 100% vegan falafel restaurant that specializes in falafel, but also serves dishes like Cauliflower “Shawarma,” Eggplant “Sabich,” Hummus Bowls, and sides of Israeli Salad.

Oren’s first foray into the restaurant world was operating a falafel pushcart called “The Energy of the Middle East” when he arrived in New York from his native Israel. On opening Tamam, he says, “As an Israeli, my mother put hummus in my baby bottle, and falafel was the first solid food I ever ate, so it was natural that my first food business was a falafel cart in 1979. Since then, I ventured to other cuisines and opened many restaurants, but it is falafel that is near and dear to my heart.”

Tamam is located at 1108 Lexington Avenue between East 77th and 78th Streets, and offers takeout and delivery.
