Sweet Vegan Bakes offers a fully vegan menu of cupcakes, milkshakes, and sandwiches in Chicago’s Old Town neighborhood.
More and more all-vegan bakeries are opening across the country, and we couldn’t be happier about it. Chicago is the latest city to join the trend with Sweet Vegan Bakes, an all-vegan bakery and quick-service restaurant that launched in Old Town last month.
Sweet Vegan Bakes Is a Community-Focused Vegan Restaurant
Sweet Vegan Bakes, a community-focused vegan restaurant, was founded by Cheryl Nelson, who began her vegan journey almost 20 years ago after being rejected for life insurance due to her health and lifestyle habits. She went vegan, started baking, and never looked back!
Nelson has big plans for the new bakery, including offering cooking classes to the community next year and expanding the savory part of the menu to include dishes like chicken & waffles. Currently, Sweet Vegan Bakes serves up vegan cupcakes, cookies, cakes, milkshakes, and both hot and cold sandwiches and wraps. They offer several gluten-free options, including their signature Strawberry Shortcake Cupcakes. The shop is located at 409 W North Ave, Chicago, IL 60610 and is open from 10am-9pm Wednesday through Sunday. A portion of all sales from the shop is donated to local community organizations such as animal shelters, food banks, and women’s organizations.

Aside from offering a delicious range of fruit-filled cupcakes, custom cakes, and the self-proclaimed “best chocolate chip cookies ever,” this all-vegan bakery offers a wide variety of grab-and-go and made-to-order entrees. Options include the Jerk Chick-N Wrap—made with house dressing and spices—and a house-made Toona Salad Sandwich. Sweet Vegan Bakes is also offering fully catered Thanksgiving meals for four, which come with vegan meat, shrimp mac ‘n’ cheese, green beans, peach cobbler, and muffins & gravy. Orders must be placed by November 14 and are limited to the first 50 customers.
