This new vegan restaurant is serving up comfort food classics with a plant-based twist in the Windy City!

After about two years in business, Black-owned vegan restaurant The Black Vegan is opening its first brick-and-mortar restaurant. The grand opening will take place June 12, from 3:30-9pm, and will feature a one day only $10 discount menu to give all returning customers—who the restaurant calls family—as well as new customers the opportunity to try as many menu items as they’d like at an affordable price.

A New Home in Chicago’s Little Village Neighborhood

“We are proud to have a new home in [Chicago’s] Little Village where the owner [Sparkle Le’Star Rucker] has over four generations of family. Community will always be first and we are just so happy to begin to share it on a larger scale,” The Black Vegan team told VegOut.

Plant-Based Versions of Comfort Food Classics

The Black Vegan offers plant-based versions of comfort food classics, such as vegan shrimp gyros, vegan shrimp burgers, saucy vegan BBQ ribs, vegan portabella wings with fries, vegan portabella gyros, and vegan cheesecake as well as apple pie for dessert. In addition, the grand opening menu features tasty bites like loaded fries, fried pickles, and strawberry cheesecake for those with a sweet tooth.
