The new offering is priced less than IKEA's traditional hot dog.
IKEA, known for its innovative furniture designs and affordable home solutions, is now making waves in the culinary world with its latest addition to the menu—the IKEA Plant Dog. This new offering is a vegan twist on the classic IKEA hot dog, catering to the growing demand for plant-based options among consumers.
Continued Commitment to Plant-Based Fare
For over 40 years, IKEA has delighted shoppers with its iconic hot dog. Now, the introduction of the Plant Dog underscores the company’s commitment to offering more plant-based alternatives at an affordable price point. Helene von Reis, Food Manager at IKEA of Sweden, said, “IKEA is driven by a vision to create a better everyday life for many people. Through our food business, we can contribute to this by offering more plant-based alternatives with a lower climate impact compared to animal-based options.”
Crafting the Perfect Plant-Based Hot Dog
Creating a plant-based hot dog that matches the texture, taste, and signature snap of its meat-based counterpart was no easy feat. However, the IKEA team rose to the challenge, developing the Plant Dog using rice protein, onion, apple, salt, pepper, and a hint of smokiness to achieve a balanced flavor profile reminiscent of a traditional sausage.
Affordable and Accessible to All
IKEA believes that healthier and more sustainable eating should be both easy and affordable. The Plant Dog, priced at just $0.70, joins the Veggie Dog, now available for $0.65, and the classic hot dog, priced at $0.75. This commitment to competitive pricing ensures that plant-based options are accessible to all customers, aligning with IKEA’s mission to cater to many.
To celebrate the launch of the Plant Dog, IKEA US is hosting a special event dubbed the “Plant Dog Baby Shower” on Thursday, April 11, from 4 to 8pm at all IKEA US stores. Customers are invited to the IKEA Bistro to sample the new Plant Dog, partake in games, and enjoy the festivities. Be sure to check your local store page for additional event details.
Additional Plant-Based Offerings at IKEA
In addition to the new Plant Dog on the IKEA Bistro menu, IKEA also offers a Plant Balls plate and Plant Balls kids plate at its restaurant. To learn more about IKEA’s plant-based offerings, visit IKEA-USA.com.
