Because vegans deserve good pizza toppings, too!

With plant-based burgers widely available at fast-food restaurants across the country, it’s about time we catch all of the major pizza chains up to speed! Following on the heels of Little Caesars and Pizza Hut, Donatos Pizza is rolling out vegan pepperoni at nearly 170 locations nationwide starting this month.

Donatos Pizza to Roll Out Plant-Based Pepperoni as an Easy Substitute

The family-owned pizza brand announced the new plant-based pepperoni launch today in partnership with the plant-based meat brand, Field Roast. It all came about from a desire for the Donatos team to find a way to help their customers achieve their New Year’s resolutions. A lot of people aspire to eat more veggies, so Donatos Pizza decided to roll out plant-based pepperoni as an easy substitute for animal-based pepperoni.

“There is no better time for us to introduce plant-based pepperoni to our menu, particularly at the start of a new year when many people resolve to make smarter food choices. While this addition is a delicious alternative to our traditional pepperoni topping, it absolutely goes toe-to-toe in both flavor and substance, and we can’t wait for people to try it,” said Carol Pasquariello, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Donatos.

Field Roast Plant-Based Pepperoni

The Field Roast Plant-Based Pepperoni is composed of pea, potato, and fava bean proteins and traditional Italian seasonings like garlic, black pepper, fennel, anise, cayenne, and paprika. The strategic combination of ingredients comes together to create a product that tastes just like traditional pepperoni. What’s the difference? Aside from being plant-based, Field Roast’s vegan pepperoni has 50% less sodium, fat, and saturated fat than the leading animal-based pepperoni.

“Our Field Roast Plant-Based Pepperoni is a delicious, protein-packed substitute for traditional pepperoni, delivering an authentic, bold taste that continues to impress consumers who’ve had the opportunity to enjoy it,” said Dan Curtin, President of Greenleaf Foods (Field Roast’s parent company). “We are delighted to partner with Donatos to continue to elevate the accessibility of this plant-based alternative to America’s favorite pizza topping.”

Vegan Options at Donatos Pizza

Starting this month, Donatos Pizza will roll out Field Roast’s vegan pepperoni as a topping at nearly 170 locations across the country. To make a vegan pizza with this pepperoni, order a pizza on their designated vegan crust with classic marinara sauce and your toppings of choice. As of now, there isn’t vegan cheese available but Donatos Pizza already has vegan sausage as a topping at all locations as well. Order a pie with the plant-based pepperoni and sausage to make your own vegan meat-lover’s pizza!
