This marks the end of an era.

According to Eater Los Angeles, the owners of famed breakfast burrito chain Wake & Late have purchased the beloved vegan-friendly burger spot, Burgerlords. With this transition, they’ve eliminated the vegan burger from the menu and replaced it with a vegetarian option (a veggie patty with dairy cheese). They’ve also added a beef tallow fry option. With these changes, Burgerlords will no longer be a safe haven for vegans.

With two Los Angeles locations—Chinatown and Highland Park—Burgerlords had flip flopped between a fully vegan menu and vegan-friendly menu. Before the new ownership, they offered a vegan-friendly menu of vegan burgers, fries, and milkshakes. Their house-made patty was one of the best we’ve tasted and we’re definitely sad to see it go!

Other notable vegan and vegan-friendly restaurants in Los Angeles, such as Sage Vegan Bistro, have recently added meat to their menus. It’s more important now than ever to support vegan restaurants.
