The Beyond Pepperoni Pizza is vegan when ordered without cheese!
Following their trend of teaming up with chain restaurants to offer their plant-based meats, Beyond Meat is testing plant-based pepperoni at 70 Pizza Hut locations.
Beyond Pepperoni
Beyond Meat first became known for its realistic-tasting vegan burger patties but recently, they’ve gained even more popularity for other delicious meat alternatives like chicken tenders. This week, the brand announced its newest innovation—Beyond Pepperoni.
Beyond Pepperoni was co-created by Beyond Meat and Pizza Hut’s culinary teams. The little round slices might be made from simple vegan ingredients like peas and rice, but they offer the same flavors and savors as Pizza Hut’s classic pepperoni. Just like Beyond Meat’s other products, this pepperoni is made without any soy, gluten, hormones, antibiotics, GMOs, or cholesterol.
“We know there is strong consumer demand for pepperoni, and we’re thrilled to unveil a game-changing plant-based pepperoni topping as the next chapter in our innovation-focused partnership with Pizza Hut. We’re confident fans will love Beyond Pepperoni as it delivers the crisped edges and savory flavor profile of Pizza Hut’s classic pepperoni with the added benefits of plant-based meat,” said Dariush Ajami, Chief Innovation Officer at Beyond Meat.
Pizza Hut Test Locations
As of this week, Pizza Hut’s Beyond Pepperoni Pizza will be available as a test in nearly 70 locations in five cities for a limited time only. The trial cities include Albany, NY; Columbus and Macon, GA; Houston, TX; and Jacksonville, FL.
The Beyond Pepperoni Pizza can be made vegan when ordered without cheese on the Original Pan, Hand Tossed, or Thin ‘N Crispy crust. However, all Pizza Hut pizzas are prepared with the same cooking tools and cooked in the same ovens, so be aware that cross-contamination does occur.
If you do not live near one of the trial cities, there are a few other vegan options at Pizza Hut to try. Vegans can enjoy the Veggie Lover’s or Create Your Own Pizza on the same crusts mentioned above with the marinara or buffalo sauce and your choice of vegetable toppings. Other plant-based items include fries and cinnamon sticks without the icing.
