We’re starting off with a bang! This all-vegan Chi-Town eatery offers a multitude of plant-based sushi rolls. Diners can choose rolls like Spicy Tumato, Not So Salmon, and Un Poco Loco. Vegan Plate also offers basic veggie rolls packed with avocado and oshinko, along with Thai-inspired apps and entrées for everyone to enjoy.

Amitabul is the home to fresh Buddhist vegan cuisine ranging from dumplings and bim bop to plant-based sushi rolls. The Jade Maki Sushi combines cucumber, avocado, spinach, rice, and seaweed for a refreshing choice. The eatery also offers the Energy Maki Roll and Spicy Kimchi Maki to choose from for sushi date nights and plant-based family dinners.
For fresh and tasty plant-based rolls, Ryo Sushi is the place to go. Their vegan-friendly offerings include rolls filled with cucumber, sweet potato, asparagus, and pickled veggies. Choices include creative options like the Crunchy Cabbage maki, which consists of tofu and napa cabbage vegan tempura, scallion, and vegan creamy spicy sauce.
West Rogers Park
Hamachi Sushi Bar is a certified kosher sushi joint serving up a multitude of Asian cuisines. While there are animal products on site, the kitchen is completely dairy-free. When it comes to sushi, Chicago vegans have options! Choose from rolls like the Tempura Satsu or Mango Maki. Diners can also select from several other vegan-friendly rolls, yet some do require modifications.
Sunda New Asian offers a separate vegetarian menu to make plant-based eating a breeze. The vegan-friendly Sweet Potato Caterpillar roll is packed with roasted sweet potato, Asian pears, avocado, black garlic, teriyaki, and roasted red pepper puree. If you like a two-roll order, also snag the Garden Roll made with basil, mango, spring mix, asparagus, cucumber, and ponzu sauce.
This modern sushi spot has the hookup on tasty Japanese-inspired eats. Seadog Sushi Bar offers an entire vegan/vegetarian menu with rolls like Secret Garden along with a five-piece sushi set for the variety-loving vegan. Rolls that contain mayo are not vegan but can be modified to fit your plant-based needs. Oh, and that tempura batter is totally good to go!
Near North Side
Niu Japanese Fusion Lounge offers a nicely labeled menu with tasty vegan sushi accommodations. Check out the Zen Roll packed with crisp cucumber, creamy avocado, Japanese mountain carrots, crunchy radish sprouts, daikon, and fresh asparagus. This sushi lounge also offers simple veggie rolls made with avocado, asparagus, cucumber, and shiitake mushrooms.

Tofu Tikkā Recipe
Tikkā is a northern Indian dish involving marinated protein or vegetables cooked in a tandoor, or clay oven. My version is made with marinated tofu baked on skewers in a conventional oven to mimic the traditional cooking vessel, which adds a char and smokiness to the dish. Using smoked paprika further pays tribute to the traditional cooking technique. This tikkā is best served hot with cooling mint chutneys and is delicious in lettuce wraps as well. For lettuce wraps, dice the tofu and vegetables into smaller pieces after cooking and fill the lettuce leaves just before serving.
