Terms of Endearment, Etérea, Le Petit Monstre, and other vegan restaurants close in NYC.
Restaurants are shutting down across the nation, but the New York vegan scene is taking an especially hard hit. Here’s a list of the latest vegan restaurant closures in NYC.
Terms of Endearment
Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Known for stellar vegan pastries and coffee, Terms of Endearment shocked the New York vegan scene when it suddenly closed in February. The plant-based bakery initially posted on Instagram earlier in the month that they’d be closed for the weekend. But after a marshal's notice was posted on their door, it was clear this was a permanent closure.
Paradise Taco
Bushwick, Brooklyn
After operating for just eight months, Paradise Taco permanently closed on January 7. The vegan Mexican restaurant wrote on Instagram, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we are closing our doors. I thank everyone who passed through and shared this space with us over the last 8 months. Small businesses struggle every day to keep open. Please go out and support them throughout the year. We are a dying breed.”
Etérea
East Village, Manhattan
Paradise Taco isn’t the only vegan Mexican restaurant to close. Overthrow Hospitality’s Etérea closed on April 27. The restaurant group stated that Etérea had not achieved the level of success they’d hoped for. Thankfully, many of Overthrow Hospitality’s restaurants are still going strong like Cadence, Soda Club, and Ladybird to name a few.
Jujube Tree
Astoria, Queens
After almost a decade of service, Jujube Tree closed its doors for good at the end of January. This vegan Chinese restaurant was a takeout go-to for many plant-based New Yorkers who will now have to find a new spot.
Le Petit Monstre
Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn
Beloved vegan bakery Le Petit Monstre just announced the closure of its Bed-Stuy location on Instagram this week. However, their Navy Yard location will remain open with plans to offer extended hours and new offerings.
Hartbreakers
Bushwick, Brooklyn
Brooklyn has seen a lot of vegan restaurant closures this year, including Hartbreakers—owned by the same team behind Terms of Endearment. This spot closed in January after failing health inspections and receiving several health code violations.
