The beloved vegan restaurant’s last day of service will be Sunday, August 7.

The vegan community in Portland was dealt another heavy blow on Wednesday of this week. Popular vegan restaurant South by Northwest announced its permanent closure.

Portland Vegan Restaurant Announces Permanent Closure

South by Northwest (SxNW) has been a valued piece of the Portland vegan community since they opened their doors in March of 2021. The spot is located in the Boise neighborhood of Portland. Its dog-friendly patio, menu of vegan comfort food, and full range of craft cocktails and mocktails quickly propelled SxNW to one of the best vegan restaurants in town.

SxNW is known throughout the community as a safe place for everyone. Those with allergies have dined freely as the entire restaurant is nut-free. And any allergens are clearly listed on the menu. The restaurant has been very active in social justice culture, with pride flags decorating the exterior and public donations to the Black Resilience Fund.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, August 3, the restaurant announced that it will be permanently closing this month, with its last day of service projected for Sunday, August 7. Citing timing and new ventures for the closure, the owners praised their time in the community for making the restaurant as successful as it was. They also acknowledged their dedicated staff.

Portland Vegan Restaurant Available for Purchase

But fear not, lovers of the Portland vegan restaurant. The owners announced in the Instagram post that they are actively looking for buyers for the restaurant. And they are open to selling the concept as-is. The concept is ready for success with its liquor license, dog-friendly patio, and dedicated following. Fingers crossed for another Homegrown Smoker situation!
