The new dairy-free flavor features indulgent chocolate mixed into a rich and creamy sorbet—here’s the scoop!

This month, Graeter’s Ice Cream released a new vegan-friendly flavor—Dark Chocolate Sorbet, which combines dark, bittersweet chocolate blended into a smooth and creamy sorbet. The new dairy-free treat is the company’s sixth bonus flavor of the summer and is currently available in stores and online.

Graeter’s Perfect Indulgence Vegan Ice Cream

Dark Chocolate Sorbet isn’t Graeter’s first foray into the plant-based scene. In 2020, the company partnered with plant-based protein brand Perfect Day to launch Perfect Indulgence, a vegan-friendly line of protein-packed ice creams. The proteins used in the ice cream come from utilizing micro-flora fermentation, as opposed to the traditional dairy from cows or other animals. The Perfect Indulgence collection includes seven flavors: Black Cherry Chocolate Chip, Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip, Madagascar Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Chip, Cookies & Cream, Chocolate, and Oregon Strawberry.

While Perfect Indulgence is considered to be vegan-friendly, the plant-derived milk proteins (casein and whey) that are used in the ice cream are identical to the proteins that come from cows. The plant-based flavors still contain milk allergens, so those with a milk allergy should take precautions before purchasing the ice cream.

Graeter’s Ice Cream Gives Back

In addition to selling indulgent ice cream, Graeter’s supports a variety of nonprofit organizations, such as The Cure Starts Now Foundation (which works to find a cure for children with brainstem glioma), Tender Mercies (which provides housing and supportive services for houseless adults with histories of mental illness), and local organizations such as The Greater Cincinnati Alzheimer’s Association.

The new Dark Chocolate Sorbet is available now for a limited time at major retailers like Whole Foods, Kroger chains, and online markets such as Goldbelly. Once the flavor sells out, it will be retired for the year.
