Oak Lawn’s first all-vegan cafe is here to fill your heart and plate!

A long-awaited dream is about to unfold in Oak Lawn. On March 5, 2025, Abuelita Coco’s, the town’s first-ever vegan cafe, will officially open its doors—welcoming the community into a space where love, tradition, and intention are infused into every dish.

A Labor of Love and Tradition

Founder Casandra Flores, inspired by the love of her grandmother, Maria Del Socorro Serna, envisioned Abuelita Coco’s as more than just a restaurant. It’s a place where the scent of cinnamon and café de olla fills the air, where vintage charm evokes deep sentiment, and where every recipe is crafted with heart. Every corner tells a story—one of devotion, feminine strength, and the beauty of slowing down to embrace the present moment.

“I originally dreamed of opening Abuelita Coco’s in 2024, but life had its own timing,” said Casandra. “Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every step of the journey led to something even more magical. Abuelita Coco’s is a dream, but it’s also a space where everyone can feel at home, surrounded by warmth, laughter, and stories that connect us all.”

A Nostalgic Embrace

With its 1950s charm, vintage decor, and thoughtfully curated details, the cafe embodies the warmth and comfort of a grandmother’s embrace, making every guest feel loved. Abuelita Coco’s is more than just a café—it’s a gathering place, a celebration of life, and a heartfelt invitation for the community to connect and create lasting memories.

Plant-based publication since 2016 · Editorial team across food, lifestyle, and human-behavior writing

VegOut launched in 2016 as a plant-based dining voice and has grown into a digital lifestyle publication for conscious living. Our editorial team covers what we eat, how we live, and how we think — from chef-driven recipes and sustainable travel to the psychology of relationships, generational shifts, and emotional resilience. We publish for a readership ranging from committed vegans to the curiously conscious, all united by a philosophy of impact over identity. We’re anti-dogma, pro-progress, and we believe the planet doesn’t need a few people doing conscious living perfectly — it needs millions of people doing it imperfectly.
