With an opportunity to enjoy plant-based foods, shop cruelty-free goods, and mingle with like-minded individuals, you won’t want to miss this free, outdoor event. Get out in the community and check out the dozens of vendors set to participate in Kalamazoo’s Plant-Based Party.

Kalamazoo’s Plant-Based Party

The People’s Plant-Based Party is an upcoming event featuring local vegan and plant-based products and services. The event is organized by People’s Food Co-op (PFC) in partnership with Vegan Kalamazoo. All vendors will be selling exclusively vegan products and services. That means all food items, goods, and services will be free from meat, poultry, seafood, eggs, dairy products, and honey, along with leather, silk, beeswax, wool, and other animal-based materials. But you don’t have to be vegan to attend! “Vegan or not, we’re confident there will be something for everyone,” said Katelyn Bekken-Simpson, Kalamazoo Farmers Market Manager. Expect to see the following vendors at Kalamazoo’s Plant-Based Party.

Vegan Kalamazoo Partners with People’s Food Co-op

A longtime supporter of the local food system, the PFC has been in Kalamazoo for decades. Their natural grocery store and deli is located on Harrison Street. The co-op features locally grown and produced foods, health and beauty products, organic food bars, and a variety of bulk items. In recent years, the PFC took on the role of Kalamazoo Farmers Market operator. The co-op will be hosting the Plant-Based Party in collaboration with Vegan Kalamazoo. Vegan Kalamazoo is a grassroots organization with a mission to provide a supportive social and learning environment for those who are following, or interested in learning more about, veganism.

“We’re so grateful to the People’s Food Co-op for initiating this event,” says Hillary Rettig, co-founder and organizer of Vegan Kalamazoo. “We encourage the whole community—including non-vegans—to come out and experience the wonderful array of locally available vegan products and services.”

The People’s Plant-Based Party is both free and open to the public. The event is set for Sunday, September 25 2022, from 11am-4pm. Kalamazoo’s Plant-Based Party will be located at the Kalamazoo Farmers Market at 1204 Bank Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49001. Hungry for more? Check out these vegan-friendly Kalamazoo restaurants.

During her studies to become a registered dietitian, Anja—a longtime vegetarian—transitioned to a vegan diet. Living in Kalamazoo, Michigan at the time (Go Broncos!), she met Maggie and Tammie through VegOut Kalamazoo (one of VegOut’s first focus cities) and began collaborating with the duo. When she’s not writing about new vegan eats, practicing as a pediatric clinical dietitian, and virtually coaching fellow plant-based eaters, you can find her creating veg-centric recipes, trying new cruelty-free products, and spending time with her partner Addison and cat Kovu.
