6 Vegan Vacations to Take in 2018

If you’re looking to plan a vacation this year, consider these six vegan-friendly destinations.

1. Mendocino, CA  – The Ultimate Wellness Vacation

A vegan paradise, The Stanford Inn offers the “exquisite opportunity to reconnect with nature,” and their wide variety of activities prove it. Their restaurant, The Ravens, boasts over 150 vegan dishes!  If you want to discover even more food, they offer cooking classes, nutrition and weight loss classes, and even an edible mushroom nature walk. Looking for some serious self-care? They offer counseling, meditation, Chinese medicine, and imagination playgroups. Outdoorsy folks can rent bikes or canoes to see the seals and otters that live along the coastline. Visitors can tour the organic gardens where the produce for the restaurant is grown. The resort also offers inclusive packages for your specific goals: “Creative Journey” and “Healthy Running Enhancement,” for example.

2. Portland, OR – Pacific Northwest Food Adventure

You won’t need a travel agent for this one, but definitely bring some stretchy pants. Eat your way through Portland’s immense and diverse vegan food scene.

Hotels to start you off right:

If you’re looking for a historic vibe, stay at Sentinel Hotel –  their Jackknife Bar has many vegan options.

If you’re looking for a more modern and sleek feel, The Nines Hotel has a restaurant with a separate vegan menu.

Hit Homegrown Smoker for BBQ ribs, Ichiza Kitchen for Pan-Asian cuisine and ramen, or No Bones Beach Club, the all-vegan tiki bar with mock seafood dishes like chowder and crab cake benedicts. Loosen up a belt notch, head to Aviv for Israeli-inspired falafel and shawarma, Virtuous Pie for pizza, Maruti Indian for the naan you’ve been missing, and the punk/metal Black Water Bar for booze and veganized pub food. End your wild excursion the real Portland way: with a School Daze PB&J donut from Voodoo Doughnut.

3. Bailey, CO – Ayurveda & Plant Medicine Retreat

Ever needed a digital detox? Take an epic step towards aligning your chakras with this 5-day yoga retreat, inclusive of vegan meals and therapeutic Rocky Mountain views. Welcoming all levels of yoga and meditation students, this retreat is aimed to help you turn off your phone, take a step back, and breathe.

4. West Lebanon, NY – Cozy Vacation in the Woods

Three hours outside the hustle and bustle of the Big Apple is a bed and breakfast called the Red Robin Song Guest House. After breakfast of tofu quiche or almond butter crepes, you can head out for a day of hiking the Appalachians, skiing, antiques shopping, or visiting the Animal Sanctuary and Beaver Rescue. If you’re feeling truly adventurous, take the Amtrak to NYC to eat at Champs Diner in Brooklyn.

5. Lake Atitlán, Guatemala – Tropical Getaway

The Laguna Lodge on Lake Atitlán is only accessible by boat! It boasts a lava bar, a hot river rock spa pool, yoga, scuba diving, and volcano walks as a few of many activities. Many restaurant items are vegan and grown in gardens on the nature reserve – even the coffee is grown and roasted right there. Laguna Lodge is the perfect mix of beautiful views, in-depth learning about Mayan culture, vegan lifestyle, and sustainability.

6. Sydney, Australia – Plant-Based Cruise

Australia’s first plant-based cruise departs Sydney this October! The Whole Connection features 9 nights of cruising the Pacific Islands and includes a specialized vegan menu, full program of speakers, presentations, yoga, meditation, fitness classes and more. Speakers include Dr. Michael Klaper Founder, James Aspey, and more! Paige Renshaw, the sole founder of The Whole Connection, is on a mission to share her journey to optimal health through a plant-based diet and help others to achieve the same.
