A lil’ bloop of personal info about myself is in order. I’m a born and raised Tampa-lite, aka a tried and true citizen of Tampa, FL. Most people don’t know this, but the Cuban sandwich was invented in Tampa when Cuban and Italian immigrants moved to the city to work in the cigar industry. This cultural fusion is visible in the classic Cuban, which features crusty Cuban bread and slow-roasted pork as well as salami and swiss cheese, representing food from both cultures. I describe this sandwich so you know how important it is as well as how difficult it is to get a vegan one. That was until Señoreata joined the Smorgasburg lineup and premiered a vegan cuban sandwich with all the flavor, elements, and soul to make a native Tampa-lite’s heart swell up with joy.
