The recently closed vegan German restaurant is turning into a brand new vegan sports bar named Put Me In Coach.

Since Hinterhof’s closing, everyone’s been wondering what restaurant would take over that glorious space in Highland Park. In our article covering the sad news, we actually hinted at a new vegan spot opening there, but now, we’re ready to spill all the tea! Hint: It’s a vegan sports bar named Put Me In Coach.

What Happened to Hinterhof?

There was once an all-vegan German restaurant and beer garden named Hinterhof. From the food and booze to the service and patio, everything was amazing at this restaurant. Now, nothing crazy happened, but the Hinterhof team decided it was time to move on and permanently close the restaurant. As word got out to other business owners in the area, everyone knew this closure would leave a gaping hole in the vegan community of Los Angeles—especially Highland Park. That’s when Jason Eisner swooped in and saved the day! By that, we mean he saved the space from turning into a non-vegan restaurant. Woohoo!

Vegan Restaurant Entrepreneur Jason Eisner

For those of you who don’t know Jason Eisner, you’re probably familiar with his work if you’ve visited Block Party, Party Beer Co, Wolfie’s, Nic’s on Beverly, or Gracias Madre. The vegan chef, mixologist, and business owner is one of the most skilled and charismatic peeps in the plant-based restaurant world. Which is why we were excited to hear he drafted up his dream team to help turn Hinterhof’s space into an all-vegan sports bar, Put Me In Coach.

Put Me In Coach

On June 15th, Eisner will be opening Put Me In Coach with teammates Josh Beane, Richard Chang, Janelle Hu, and Brennan Woo from Party Beer Co and Wolfie’s as well as Natalie Curfman and Steven Escot, who Eisner worked with at Gracias Madre and Block Party.

The Menu Lineup at Highland Park’s Newest Vegan Joint

Eisner’s goal in creating Put Me In Coach is to represent sports, like food, as a global unifier. In honor of that, the menu lineup at Highland Park’s newest vegan joint will feature a wide variety of noms from all over the world—including some recipes from Eisner’s nonna. From Mexican street tacos, Korean bibimbap, and Grandma pizza by the slice, to American sports bar grub like buffalo wings, chili dogs, and house-made cool ranch “Doritos,” there will be something for every craving! Chef Richard Chang, the mastermind behind Wolfie’s and the now-closed food truck, Tehuanita 2.0, lived in Guadalajara for years. He became well-versed in the street taco scene and is heading up the taco recipes, which will pay homage to Taco Treat, the original hardshell taco spot that used to stand on the property. You can probably already infer from the word “bar,” but Put Me In Coach will offer a fun cocktail program once their liquor license is obtained.

A Vegan Sports Bar

In true vegan sports bar fashion, Put Me In Coach will play all the best games. LAFC games, Dodgers, Clippers, Lakers, Rams—whatever season it is, you can expect to see the hottest teams on the big screens. The restaurant will also show tennis, international soccer games, hobbyhorse racing, spike ball, slam ball, and even sports-oriented films like Space Jam and Bad News Bears.

All the Deets

Get your favorite jersey ready because Put Me In Coach is set to open at 4939 York Blvd in Highland Park on Tuesday, June 15th! Expect to eat good food, sip refreshing drinks, watch some sports, and play the new interactive patio games if you dare.
