Vegan Pub Sunny’s Backyard Opening in East Austin

East Austin is about to welcome a new vegan pub this spring. Sunny’s Backyard will take over the vacated spot that was once the Hard Luck Lounge in the Govalle neighborhood. The co-owners are Los Angeles transplants and former employees of Beelman’s—a plant-based pub in Downtown LA. The new restaurant gets its name from the couple’s rescued terrier, and their other four-legged family member, Huey, will receive recognition in the form of an outdoor bar named Huey’s Corner. The outdoor space is extensive and will be dog-friendly.

The outdoor space is extensive and will be dog-friendly.

Patrons can look forward to the cheffed-up pub grub menu which will put a culinary fusion spin on the classic bar food fare. This includes giant German-style pub pretzels with gochujang aioli, Korean-inspired hot dogs in pretzel buns, nacho-esque loaded fries, and more. The owners are currently waiting on their liquor license but have a full wine, beer, and cocktail menu planned to accompany the vegan eats.

Sunny’s Backyard is scheduled to open in March 2021.
