UGG just dropped their first all-vegan shoe collection, and the styles are pretty darn epic!
The popular shoe brand’s new Plant Power Collection features three all-gender shoes that are all crafted with sustainable, plant-based materials like renewable sugarcane, Hevea rubber, natural hemp, and Tencel lyocell. The designs are created using low-emission materials and the remaining carbon emissions are offset by the brand.
First in the lineup is the Fluff Sugar Sandal. This bold plush shoe is made using Tencel lyocell, a material composed of wood pulp that’s sourced from responsibly-harvested trees. Next up is the oh-so-trendy Fluff Sugar Platform! By using renewable sugarcane in the sole of the shoe instead of petroleum-based ethylene, UGG reduces their dependency on fossil fuels which substantially brings down the amount of carbon emissions. Last on the roster is the Neumel Natural. This timeless shoe features a sole that’s handcrafted out of latex harvested from the Hevea rubber tree, an outer layer produced from hemp, and a super soft plush inside created with Tencel lyocell.
“At UGG, we are committed to doing our part to combat climate change,” said UGG president, Andrea O’Donnell. “Our design team took inspiration from our iconic styles and created new silhouettes with carbon-neutral, plant-based materials. The resulting Plant Power Collection tells a story about what is possible, and it is an exciting step in on our journey toward a more sustainable future.”
With their new collection, UGG has reduced 900,000 pounds of CO2, conserved 4.6 million MJs of energy, and spared 380 million liters of water. The brand expressed plans to continue their sustainable practices through their FEEL GOOD campaign. UGG hopes to increase their use of recycled, repurposed, regenerated, renewable, and certified fibers by 35% by 2027.
