Silver Lake will soon be welcoming a new vegan-friendly convenience store style restaurant, with California Sun opening Monday, February 11. The beer and pizza hangout will be offering over 100 craft beers, thin and thick crust pizzas (with vegan options available), seasonal salads, and sides.
California Sun will be structured like a convenience store, with a three-door cooler of drinks and cold display cases with salads and sides, as well as feature a pizza counter setup. Additionally, there’s an outdoor patio, plus, for an old-school diner experience, a V-shaped bar with bolted down barstools. “California Sun is meant to be an easy place to hang out or pick up some delicious food and beer to go,” said Tony Yanow, one of the founders of Artisanal Brewers Collective (ABC), the group behind California Sun. “We wanted to bring a casual, walkable spot to the neighborhood with something for everyone.”
As far as pizza goes, California Sun will be serving a daily selection of Detroit deep dishes and New-York-style slices, along with set 20” pies. Their set vegan pizza options include their Basic Pie with vegan mozz or their Vegan Aegean pizza, which features spinach, black olive, chick pea, harissa, vegan mozz. There’s also their build-your-own pie option, where you can choose from vegan topping choices, like red sauce, vegan white sauce, vegan mozz, roasted garlic, white onion, red onion, green bell pepper, pickled jalapeño, button mushroom, black olive, capers, fresh basil, vegan pepperoni, red bell pepper, cauliflower, Castelvetrano olives, and harissa.
California Sun will be located at 3903 Sunset Boulevard and will be open 7 days a week— Monday-Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday 11am-12am, Saturday 10am-12am, and Sunday 10am-11pm. Delivery will be available until 2am Friday and Saturday on platforms like Grubhub and Uber Eats.
