Silicon Valley ice cream startup Perfect Day has partnered with Smitten Ice Cream in San Francisco to launch dairy-identical vegan “N’Ice Cream” in four flavors—Brown Sugar Chocolate, Fresh Strawberry, Coconut Pecan, and Root Beer Float.

Specially-crafted with Perfect’s Day’s microflora to taste exactly like dairy, the new vegan ice cream is now available to the public in pints (all four flavors) at Smitten Ice Cream’s flagship shop in San Francisco’s Mission district. It is available in the Brown Sugar Chocolate and Fresh Strawberry flavors at other Smitten’s locations in the Bay Area.

This new vegan ice cream is crafted to have the same nutritional value and taste as dairy ice cream, but is made completely animal-free because of the company’s utilization of microflora. Perfect Day founders Ryan Pandya and Perumal Gandhi—both of whom are biomedical engineers and vegans—discovered a way to create animal-free dairy proteins identical to the ones found in cow’s milk, and have since been working on creating multiple “flora-based” products that are fully-vegan.
