The popular juicery is teaming up with food technology brand The EVERY Company to debut the new product.

We’ve seen a lot of innovation over the last couple of years when it comes to meat-free animal protein products, and now Pressed is serving the world’s first animal-free egg white protein smoothie in collaboration with The EVERY Company.

The EVERY Company’s Animal-Free Egg

It’s not made from eggs, but it’s functionally equivalent to eggs in every other way. The animal-free egg that The EVERY Company has been working on is made by a process called precision fermentation.

This process involves assembling the same DNA sequence that animals use to make protein, inserting it into yeast, and then adding sugar. Through the fermentation process, the sugar naturally converts into protein. This process yields the world’s first animal-free egg protein—it’s 100% equivalent to the animal protein, but isn’t derived from any animals. The end result is also free from sugar and is not genetically modified.

While no animals were used in the process, the product is not suitable for those with egg allergies, as it is nature-equivalent to an egg.
