A new fully-vegan burger joint opening in the Minneapolis area is poised to be the plant-based McDonald’s with nationwide expansion plans set for this year!
Steele Smiley has been vegan for over seven years and is on a mission to provide food to plant-based and plant-curious customers that tastes just as good as the original. His first business—a salad chain, Crisp & Green, launched in 2016 and is already on its way to becoming nationally recognized with locations in Minnesota and dozens more slated to open across the Midwest and Florida later this year.
After his son asked him one evening “Dad, why do we always have to eat salads?”—a question often asked by vegans dining at vegan-friendly establishments across the country, Smiley had his next idea. Stalk & Spade is a burger concept with all of the classic favorites, built as a national brand from the beginning. The concept is simple: Offer dine-in, order ahead, and car-side pick-up, all taking on the fast food business model, with no meat or dairy on the premises. The menu will feature house-made burgers, a faux chicken sandwich that tastes akin to Chick-fil-A, and crispy fries, along with sundaes and cones for dessert.
Stalk & Spade’s first location will open on Earth Day (April 22) across the street from Smiley’s flagship Crisp & Green location. For more information on the opening and the menu, visit stalkandspade.com or follow @stalkandspade on Instagram.
Stalk & Spade’s flagship location will be located at 740 Lake St E, Wayzata, MN 55391.
