Long John Silver’s Adds Vegan Seafood to Its Menu
Our vegan seafood dreams are coming true as the popular fast-food chain adds two plant-based items to the menu in partnership with Gathered Foods.
This week, Long John Silver’s adds vegan seafood to its menu in partnership with Gathered Foods—the producers of Good Catch plant-based seafood. The fast-food chain is currently offering a Plant-Based Breaded Fish-Free Fillet and a Plant-Based Breaded Crab-Free Cake at five Long John Silver’s locations in California and Georgia for a limited time while supplies last.
Long John Silver’s Fish-Free Fillets
The new menu option includes a Plant-Based Platter—which comes with two Plant-Based Breaded Fish-Free Fillets or two Crab-Free Cakes—and two sides of choice. The fish-free fillets are encased in a crispy breading and have a tender, flaky texture similar to that of whitefish, while the crab-free cakes have a lump crabmeat-like texture that’s blended with sweet peppers, green onions, parsley, and a touch of spice. Both items feature Good Catch’s proprietary six-legume blend of peas, chickpeas, lentils, and soy, that mimics the flakiness of seafood.
Vegan Seafood on the Rise
It’s been a successful year for Gathered Foods as they recently launched a frozen vegan seafood line, which features Plant-Based Fish Fillets, Plant-Based Crab Cakes, and Plant-Based Fish Sticks. In addition, the brand continues to expand its foodservice footprint, offering items like its Good Catch deli-style plant-based tuna salad at Whole Foods markets, as well as Safeway, Randalls, and Tom Thumb grocers. In February, Gathered Foods partnered with Bareburger to launch The Gulf, a plant-based fish burger made with a Good Catch fish-free patty, organic green leaf lettuce, organic cucumber, organic red onions, organic tomatoes, vegan mayo, and vegan green goddess dressing on a sprout bun. The Gulf Burger is currently available at all Bareburger locations.
The new fish-free fillets and crab-free cakes can be found at Long John Silver’s Newnan and Albany locations in Georgia, as well as the Bakersfield, Sacramento, and Clovis locations in California.
