Calling all movie-loving vegans! Get ready to dive through that retro TV set straight into the fictional fast-food joint, Mooby’s. This fast-food parody is featured in Kevin Smith’s movies Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Clerks II. The restaurant set pokes fun at traditional fast-food establishments in Smith’s movies from the ’90s and early 2000s. Fast forward that VHS to the year 2021 and this writer, actor, and wearer of backward hats is bringing the fictional fast-food franchise to life and it’s hitting the streets of Detroit with vegan options to boot.

Detroit Vegan-Friendly Pop-Up

The pop-up restaurant will be operating out of Tin Roof Detroit, a live music bar near Comerica Park. The Detroit vegan-friendly pop-up menu will include nostalgic nods to Mooby’s screen debut such as Moo Mains and Salt Lick Sides, but this time they’re serving vegan options too. After sustaining, and surviving, a heart attack in 2018, Smith transitioned to a plant-based diet and Mooby’s vegan options are an inclusive tribute to his own dietary practices.

Vegan Menu Options

Vegan menu options will include the “Beyond Cow Tipper,” comprised of two Beyond patties, yellow mustard, pickle, red onion, and Mooby’s sauce on a vegan bun. Plant-based eaters may also opt for the “Vegan Cowdong,” a Beyond Brat topped with mustard and giardiniera. Both Salt Lick Sides are vegan—bring on the “Onion Rings to Rule Them All” and “Hater Tots.” The pop-up will even offer vegan “Cookies From the Mall Stand.” Diners may sip on soda or grab a brew. Mooby’s beer offerings were made in collaboration with local suds company Atwater Brewery. Beyond the IG-worthy food and interactive pickup experience, true Mooby’s fans can purchase merch during their stay.

Mooby’s Pop-Ups

The Mooby’s pop-up will remain in the Motor City Tuesday July, 6th through Tuesday, July 20th. Tickets are required, and both indoor and outdoor seating is available, but limited. In an attempt to keep guests safe, the team is limiting the number of people allowed in for pickup at one time. Each ticket is $29 and includes a full Mooby’s Meal, beverage, and nostalgic experience. Check out this fictional franchise at Tin Roof Detroit located at 47 E Adams Avenue, Detroit, MI 48226. Can’t make the trip? Check out Mooby’s pop-ups across North America, you might just catch one in your city!
