Hormel’s Vegan Pepperoni Launches at Papa Murphy’s

Another national chain is adding a vegan option to the menu, and we are here for it! Starting this month, Papa Murphy’s will debut a vegan pepperoni option on the menu. The plant-based pepperoni is made by Happy Little Plants, a brand owned by Hormel Foods. The brand was launched by Hormel in 2019, and has since offered a plant-based ground product at select Fresh Thyme locations and on the HyVee online marketplace. The vegan pepperoni is made using the same spice blend as Hormel’s traditional pepperoni, but is completely made from plants.

“Chefs and restaurateurs are very aware of today’s dynamic food landscape and consumers’ desire to add more plant-based foods to their diets, and we are very excited to bring this great-tasting, plant-based option to our partners at Papa Murphy’s,” said Anthony Panichelli, food service pizza toppings brand manager at Hormel Foods.

“The new Happy Little Plants brand pepperoni-style topping was developed with foodservice operators to ensure pizzeria-level taste, convenience, and quality, so much so that many people may have a hard time tasting the difference between Happy Little Plants brand pepperoni-style topping and traditional pepperoni. Our team worked closely with pizzerias, chefs, foodservice operators and pizza experts to develop a plant-based pepperoni-style topping that cooks and tastes exactly like traditional pepperoni.” The new Happy Little Plants brand pepperoni-style topping and plant-based crumbles will be making their debut at select Papa Murphy’s locations this month in Austin and Dallas, TX; Duluth, MN; Fargo, ND; and Las Vegas, NV.
