El Pollo Loco Adds Vegan Chicken to Their Menu
El Pollo Loco’s Chickenless Pollo Taco and Burrito can now be ordered vegan! This popular fast-food chain launched their Chickenless Pollo meat alternative earlier this year. At the time of its launch, the chicken alternative was not completely vegan, as it contained egg. In efforts to diversify their menu with better-for-you options, they’ve reformulated this meat-free item to make it 100% vegan!
“Our customers provided feedback through our social channels. We listened and quickly reformulated the recipe in a matter of a couple months,” said Bernard Acoca, President and Chief Executive Officer at El Pollo Loco. “Evolving our customer favorite Chickenless Pollo innovation takes us another step further in the plant-based space and continues our commitment to championing making healthier eating more accessible and affordable.”
Their new and improved Chickenless Pollo is made from non-GMO soy protein that’s blended in an adobo sauce and infused with traditional Mexican flavors. Want to know the best part? It’s American Vegetarian Association-certified and no longer contains egg enzymes! Thank goodness!
When you order El Pollo Loco’s new Chickenless Pollo Taco and Burrito, be sure to say “make it vegan” to remove the cheese and Creamy Cilantro Dressing that it traditionally comes with. For the burrito, that will leave you with Chickenless Pollo, black beans, shredded lettuce, and avocado in a flour tortilla. The veganized taco includes Chickenless Pollo, shredded lettuce, and avocado on a yellow corn tortilla with your choice of sauce.
These two new vegan-friendly items are now available upon request at all 485 of El Pollo Loco’s locations! Eating vegan on the go just got SO. MUCH. EASIER.
