This all-vegan cafe is known for serving casual daytime comfort food like Reuben Sandwiches, Jackfruit “Chicken” Salad, Cauliflower Mac and Cheese, and Street Tacos. Executive chef Mimi Williams decided to stray from Counterpart’s traditional menu items with the launch of a weekend-only dinner tasting menu. Featuring handmade pastas, freshly-prepared cheeses, and vegetable-based renditions of classic Italian dishes, the special menu pays homage to Williams’ Sicilian-Creole heritage and classically-trained style of cooking.
“The tasting menu reveals how ingredients from the ground can both stand alone as a fully composed plate and can also be manipulated to mimic the taste and texture of meat-based dishes, while underscoring the inherent quality and flavor of produce. There’s still a level of artistry involved; many of the plates are prepared through a multi-day process and employ sous vide, braising, fermentation, and dehydration methods,” shared Williams.
What can you expect to enjoy if you get a ticket to this shindig? Tomato Carpaccio, Beet Pappardelle, Lasagna Bolognese, Tiramisu, and more! There will also be an array of non-alcoholic beverages available including biodynamically-sourced hand-rolled teas, CBD-infused aperitifs, and spirit-free cocktails featuring Ritual Zero Proof alcohol.
The weekend-only plant-based tasting menu is the first of its kind in Los Angeles! This ticketed event will take place at Counterpart Vegan’s trendy Echo Park patio every Friday and Saturday evening, with seating times at 6 and 8pm. Tickets are available for $75 per person and can be purchased ahead of time on Tock. More information can be found at counterpartvegan.com.
Counterpart Vegan is located at 1559 Echo Park Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90026.
